       -Those Hidden in Plain Sight

Amy sighed and got in her little car. She wished she had a clue as to who had given her the present. She wondered about it the whole way home. 

When she finally got home, she ran inside with the little box. Locking her door behind her, she set it on the bed and ripped it open. It contained a simple leather bracelet with runes etched into it. There was one blank space. 

"Hmmm. Is that it?" she asked the room. She tipped the box. Another note fell out. 

Put on the bracelet. When it's done, take it off for 10 minutes and put it back on. Meet us in the woods behind the school at 11:30 tonight.

         -Those Once Hidden but Will Soon be Known

She frowned. It was weird. But what could it hurt? She slid on the bracelet. A rune burned into existence in the empty space and she collapsed shivering. Warily, she stood back up. 

"Wha...What was th...that?" she looked around bewildered. Then she felt an itching on her hands. Soft black fur was sliding up her wrists like gloves as her nails became retractable claws. She tried to scream, but her vocal cords were useless. The itching jumped to her feet as they morphed into delicate black paws, cracking as they became digitigrade. The fur slid up her legs, tickling and feeling almost like a plush blanket being rubbed over her. When it reached her hips, she felt a huge jolt in her spine and heard a loud ripping sound. Feeling something brushing her ankle, she looked behind her to see a luxuriously fluffy but sleek black tail curling gracefully around her leg. She gasped. 

The fur covered her shoulders and spread downwards, covering her chest with the softest fur she had ever felt. The same fur spread up over her belly as thicker longer fur coated her back, becoming thickest just below her neck. It spread up her neck. Her black wavy mid length hair grew white and blue tips as it shot down just past the base of her tail. The fur had now covered her face. Her teeth shifted and became sharp as her ears grew fur, became pointed, and slowly rose up the sides of her head. Her eyes burned as her pupils became slits and the iris's turned ice blue. She shrank to 5'5", her body becoming more proportionate to her hight. She looked in the mirror. Standing before her was the most gorgeous anthro cat girl she had ever seen. Her clothes hung off of her in weird ways. Suddenly fabric began shifting. Her jeans refitted, becoming tighter and more tattered. Her T-shirt became a white and yellow sundress. She grinned, adjusting to the change. She reread the notes, then pulled off the bracelet. She wandered around her room. Nothing had changed except her. When the ten minutes were up, she slid on the bracelet. Immediately, the changes faded back. She took it off and they reappeared. She slid it back on for a second time. 

"Weird, but really cool."

At 11:27 she pulled into the wooded tract of land behind her school. A blue jeep was already parked there. She saw two people standing beside it. She recognized them. 

"Skye? Layla? Is that you?"

The two laughed and nodded. 

"You like your present?" Skye asked. 

"Mhmm. I loved it. But how?"

The pair pulled off similar bracelets. Fur spread over their bodies as they changed. Soon a kitsune and a wolf were standing in front of her. Skye grinned at her. 

"Charmed bracelets," he said. 

Amy looked at him quizzically. "Again, how?"

Layla spoke up. "I bought several when I went to Japan last year. They're supposed to help you and "free you" so to speak. I suppose it releases your spirit animal."

"That's...cool. But why?" Amy looked, if possible, even more confused.

"You've been having problems with your family, right?" Skye asked.

"Well, yeah. Dad's lost his job and so we have no income, and mom's still sick. But how is this supposed to help with all that?"

"It doesn't really, but it relaxes you more and clears your head. You can help better because you'll be calmer and more ready to deal with stuff. Just don't let on that the bracelet does that to anyone. According to the monks, putting on someone else's bracelet can have...bad consequences for the idiot who puts it on," Layla patted her shoulder. "But you'll love it. Skye and I go out hiking like this all the time. You can come from now on if you want."

Amy nodded her head quickly and grinned. "That sounds awesome."

"We're going tomorrow after school. I was planning on riding with Layla but if it's all three of us, we'll take my car. Ok?" Skye grinned at the two girls. "Planning on going up to the falls. We're the only ones that we know of that know about the falls. They're awesome. You in?"

Amy bounced with enthusiasm. "So what now?"

"Just go home. Sleep, act normal. Tomorrow meet at Skye's car in the parking lot and off we go." 

"Ok. Thanks a lot guys. I'm glad you shared this with me."
